A little late but here’s my WWW Wednesday hosted by Sam on Taking on a World of Words.
The Three Ws are:
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
Currently reading: Joseph J. Ellis – The Quartet, Orchestrating the Second American Revolution 1783 – 1789
A bit of a departure from my normal reading list. I love American politics and the history of it, me A Level politics years were split between learning about British and American politics, I have to say I keep up to date with American politics a little more happily than I do British. I started reading this about a year ago and lost it between house moves so I am excited to start reading it again.
Just Finished Reading: John Fowles – The Collector, Sylvia Plath – The Bell Jar, Matthew Quick – The Silver Linings Play Book
The Collector remains my favourite book! I’ve watched the hit Netflix series You, although I haven’t read the book it’s based on, The Collector is a better version of the obsession and kidnap story. Here’s the link to my review.
I read The Bell Jar back in my school days and I want to give it a re-read with fresh, older eyes to find new depths. I enjoyed the story and was able to better understand the identity struggle Esther faces as a woman in the city. The way Plath writes so honestly about mental health are just as important today. My review is here.
Now, I have to admit I gave up on The Silver Linings Playbook. I really wanted to enjoy it, I really tried to like it… but it felt like a poor man’s version of The Catcher In The Rye. I hate leaving books unfinished but I just couldn’t reach the end. Perhaps in a week when I haven’t already read about kidnapping and suicide I’ll be able to revisit it and make it to the end.
Next up: I haven’t decided on my next read yet, I’ve gotten into a lot of craft projects that I need to finish and am waiting on a book order to come.
