Every other week I’ll be taking part in WWW Wednesday, hosted by Sam on Taking on a World of Words.
The Three Ws are:
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
Currently Reading: Sophie Kinsella ‘I Owe You One’
I always have a spot on my shelves for Sophie Kinsella, I love the easy read nature of her writing. At uni I’d take a break from Woolf, Plato and all the rest with Shopaholic. I’d love to say it’s my guilty pleasure, but I don’t feel any guilt.
Full review will be up shortly!
Finished Reading: Anita Anand ‘Sophia – Princess, Suffragette, Revolutionary’
This one was a re-read from my university days when I had to find a ‘New Woman’ for a research project. I got a first on the assignment, but I was inspired by Sophia Duleep Singh, daughter of the last Maharajah and god-daughter of Queen Victoria, a fearless revolutionary.
Despite being non-fiction it is so well written that I felt like I truly got to know Sophia, and her equally interesting sisters. Sophia herself had no children, but she doted on her housekeeper’s daughter, and repeatedly made the little girl promise to vote, imploring her ‘you are never, ever not to vote. You must promise me. When you are allowed to vote you are never, ever to fail to do so. You don’t realise how far we’ve come’.
My full review after my first reading can be found here.
Up Next: Matthew Quick ‘The Silver Linings Play Book’
